No doubt most of you have experienced at least one member of the community declaring on the board that he or she has had enough and is leaving forever. Sometimes multiple times. With rare exceptions, the person does not request to have his/her account deleted. PPMB Management has discussed this issue, and we've reached the conclusion that if the person is truly serious about leaving, we'll just go ahead and delete his or her account, regardless of whether this action has been requested. It won't matter if the person announces on the board or in PM -- the result will be the same.
The member will be granted a 48-hour grace period from the time he/she made the announcement, which will give him/her time to cool down, come back, and apologize for any nastiness. If more than 48 hours lapses, though, the account will be deleted.
Note that this is different from someone simply getting busy with life and visiting the message board less frequently. Those accounts will be left alone (although in some cases, they might become defunct due to changes in board configuration).
Also note that this policy does not apply to people who 1) say kindly, "I'm moving/starting a new job/starting school and won't be able to visit the board anymore. Good-bye!" or 2) people who tell a friend in confidence in a PM that they are fed up and leaving. It's only if the person leaving chooses to tell a mod over PM in an angry manner or if he/she tells a friend over PM to announce it to the board, complete with a "screw you!"
However, should you request for your account to be deleted and later choose to return, only under rare circumstances (such as if your original account was not working and you therefore needed a new one) would you be permitted a new account.
